 WHAT YOU’LL DO

Much of the magic delivered from our products is the result of our controls system. As our Controls Development Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in developing, testing and implementing the electronic controls systems. This is a great opportunity to gain a ton of experience in the R&D process and what it takes to bring innovative technology to market. You’ll make an immediate impact in developing our products by:


  • Designing and implementing control algorithms in MATLAB and Simulink to meet high-level functional requirements and perform your own data analysis
  • Being the first line of defense in testing control algorithms both on custom simulation equipment from our factory in Mohnton, PA, as well as on test boats on the water
  • Analyzing data collected during testing in MATLAB and Simulink and making data-driven conclusions to suggest next steps and go-to-market plans
  • Participating in FMEA and software functional safety discussions
  • Contributing to the software release process for the Seakeeper product lineup
  • Participating and contributing to software development items on Seakeeper’s custom embedded hardware, specifically Seakeeper’s Simulink-based auto code generation IDE (SeaCoder) including contributing in the following areas:
    • Real-time embedded environments and utilizing openRTOS and freeRTOS
    • Low-level drivers for 32-bit microcontrollers for Seakeeper’s custom 6-axsis internal measurement unit (IMU) hardware
    • Constructing algorithms and generating C/C++ code using Simulink

MUST-HAVES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience, which can come in the form of previous work experience or strong and demonstrated collegiate experience (e.g. senior design project, intercollegiate club work or personal hobbies) in the following:
    • Knowledge of scripting languages and demonstrated proficiency in applying them for the purposes of complex data analysis
      • Experience with Python, Javascript, C# are beneficial, but MATLAB language experience is preferred
    • Troubleshooting test hardware and wire harnesses using oscilloscopes and multimeters
    • Developing control algorithms in MATLAB & Simulink either in simulation or on other complex mechatronic systems
    • Hydraulic controls systems
    • Knowledge of Motohawk or Raptor and automotive-style calibration tools such as CANape, Inca, Vehicle Spy, etc.
  • Be comfortable wiring and being hands-on with the product (it’s going to be dirty sometimes!)
  • Capable of thinking systematically and documenting process, procedures and test results
  • Thrive in a collaborative team environment, but also effective working independently
  • Eager to learn and gain experience in a wide array of disciplines and projects
  • Motivated to improve both yourself and those around you
  • Passion to bring new products into production
  • Willing to travel 25 – 50% of the time for testing and software releases


NICE-TO-HAVES

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering


MORE DETAILS YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW

  • This role will be based onsite in our Ft. Myers, FL facility as of October 1st, 2022
    • Until then, you will be temporarily based in our Mystic Islands, NJ facility full-time (travel to and from NJ paid for by Seakeeper) 
    • Relocation assistance will be offered to Ft. Myers, if applicable 
  • You’ll report to the Director of Engineering

 

YOUR TEAM

Our Controls Development Engineers are nestled within our Product Engineering department. It is a small, but mighty team that covers a lot of ground. It is a flat team, managing projects through an Agile workflow that allows maximum exposure to a variety of projects and systems within the group. The team is comprised of engineers with varying backgrounds and specialties including hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, software, controls and more with a heavy emphasis on collaboration. You’ll be able to be involved in a myriad of projects and participate in program management instead of only owning a small defined piece of the process.
